This tour is suitable for all ages but no trip to Cowichan would
be complete without a visit to one of our local winemakers. We start
the day with a drive through neighboring vineyards to Godfrey
Brownell Vineyard. You'll get an introduction to wine-making,
learn the history of the wines now aging in oak or steel, and, depending
upon the time of your visit, you may even see the wine maker at
work or have the chance to taste the wine from the barrels. Next
we’re on to Fairburn Farm and Water Buffalo Dairy
for visit with the docile creatures and some history of this beautiful
heritage farm. We then head for the coast and historic Cowichan
Bay where first settlers to the area arrived in 1862. Lunch
will be at the Rock Cod Cafe followed by a visit
to First Nations carver Herb Rice at his studio ‘Coast
Salish Journey’ where you will learn some of the
culture of the local indigenous people. The drive that follows will
take you past some of the historical sites and points of interest
in the area arriving in time for a ‘flying demonstration’
at Pacific Northwest Raptors. Watch trained, captive-bred
birds of prey do what they do best – fly free. Our last stop
will be at 'Valhalla Herbs and Things' enjoy a
stroll around this picturesque herb farm and taste and smell the
difference of organically raised products! A day to elate your senses
- enjoy !
